General Social Sciences is an adaptable major that spans history, geography, anthropology, economics, political science, psychology and sociology. Students look at how people, cultures and institutions shape the world, rather than staying inside one discipline.
Courses come from many university departments and schools. Majors pick one of four concentrations covering applied economics and business, crime and law, globalization and environmental policy, or social studies teaching. Students sample several social science disciplines before settling on the topics that interest them most. The major attracts students interested in fairness, inequality, identity and why people act as they do, and in issues such as poverty, climate change, public policy and mental health.
Graduates work in education, law, public service, nonprofits, counseling, business and journalism, building communication, critical thinking and research skills.
