Graduate study in animal, dairy and veterinary sciences at Utah State covers a spectrum from livestock production to molecular investigation of animal and human health. Research tools range from genomics and proteomics to bioinformatics and cloning, supported by campus laboratories and several livestock research farms near Logan.
Labs are small, typically three to five people, so trainees receive close mentoring from a faculty advisor. Applicants must find an advisor before they can be accepted. Specializations include animal health and disease, genetics, nutrition, and reproduction and development, while an animal management track is offered only at the master's level.
Alumni move into agribusiness, animal management, the feed industry, nutrition companies, diagnostic medicine and technical work serving animal or human health. Prospective students are advised to read the department's research area listings before contacting potential advisors.
