Utah State's graduate plant science program looks at how plants grow, inherit traits and are managed, with attention to farm and garden production in the arid West. Particular emphasis falls on invasive weeds of the Intermountain region and on organic and sustainable farming under dry conditions.
Each student follows an individually planned course of study and works closely with faculty on research. Topics include plant physiology, genetics, molecular biology, breeding, crop production and forage systems. Master's candidates choose between a thesis route and a non-thesis route, and doctoral candidates sit a qualifying experience that can take several forms.
Applicants submit transcripts, three recommendation contacts and GRE results, and applications are reviewed year-round, though the strongest chances come from applying between October and January.
