MA/MS in Philosophy

The M.A. in Philosophy at Virginia Tech is a thesis or non-thesis master's program offered on the Blacksburg campus. Students begin with a pro-seminar and complete core work in metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of science, history of philosophy, and value theory. Both tracks share the same distribution requirements. The thesis track includes research and thesis credits, while the non-thesis track substitutes a project and report. Many electives are available, and a graduate handbook lists them. Applicants supply transcripts, a writing sample, a statement of purpose, a CV, and recommendation letters. The program admits for fall. Applicants must submit an application by the stated deadline. A graduate program director and coordinator can answer questions from prospective applicants.
