The doctoral program in Civil Engineering covers construction engineering management, environmental, geotechnical, structural and transportation engineering. It prepares students for leadership in practice, research and teaching.
Graduates are expected to solve problems with theory, assess and optimize infrastructure systems, communicate with varied audiences, work in diverse teams and carry out original research. Applicants should hold an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree with a high grade average, or a master's degree with strong graduate grades; only regular admission is offered. Students who cannot complete the doctorate may transfer credits toward a master's degree. Applications are due early in the year for funding consideration.
Students entering with a bachelor's degree who do not complete later requirements may transfer suitable credits to a master's program in civil engineering or environmental and sustainability engineering. Course information is posted in the department's graduate handbook.
