BA/BS in Computer Science

This computer science major is taught in small classes by full-time faculty and carries ABET accreditation through its computing commission. Graduates are trained to build and use software-driven answers to problems, with attention to software design, data representation and data management. Elective choices let students concentrate in areas such as mobile and cloud work, cybersecurity, building games and machine learning, and an optional End-User Computing concentration is available. Instructors have industry backgrounds. Students take part in real-world projects and assemble a portfolio as they go, and they can gain experience through internal or external internships. Courses are delivered on campus, and the department emphasizes individual attention and student support. The major is housed in the College of Professional Studies at Westfield State University.
