Biology majors are guided by faculty who specialize in different branches of the discipline, starting with relevant courses and laboratory work in the first semester. Students use well-equipped labs and workspaces and receive individual feedback because of the low student-to-faculty ratio. Undergraduate research, conference presentations and publication opportunities help prepare graduates for advanced study or for work. A biology club and professional events provide a network that includes alumni. The degree supports many directions, including medicine, veterinary work, biotechnology, ecology and teaching. Concentrations are offered, among them biotechnology, which requires an internship and focuses on technologies that address disease, environmental impact and clean energy, and biology education.
