BA/BS in Chemistry

The chemistry department is small enough for students to know their classmates and instructors, yet its faculty cover organic, analytical, geochemistry, computational chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics and chemistry education. Graduates have entered the chemical and biotech industries, taught high school chemistry in Massachusetts, or continued to graduate study in chemistry and fields such as law and physician assistant programs. A biochemistry concentration pairs foundational chemistry courses with biochemistry and practical lab experience for careers in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Early labs follow set instructions to teach safe, accurate technique, and later students design their own experiments with a faculty mentor. Support includes free tutoring, faculty help and S-STEM scholarships, and the department hosts a chapter of a national chemistry honor society.
