The accounting major trains students to examine, report, measure, audit and document financial transactions, including preparing corporate financial statements, profit and loss analysis and balance sheets. It also covers the educational requirements for becoming a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Massachusetts.
The plan pairs a business core with electives outside business and focused accounting courses. Business topics include finance, business law and quantitative methods, while accounting courses go deeper into financial reporting, taxation, auditing and cost accounting.
Students can attend on campus, online or through remote synchronous classes. Internship and professional development opportunities are available, and an accounting club lets students network with peers.
The major is housed in the College of Professional Studies at Westfield State University. Prospective students can request information, plan a campus visit or apply through the program page.
