BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering

The mechanical engineering major at Wilkes leads to a BS and teaches students how everyday machines and systems are made to work. It pairs a demanding, up-to-date curriculum with projects that also build the communication skills employers seek. Core subject areas include fluid mechanics, thermal science and mechanical design, with newer topics like robotics, nanotechnology and additive manufacturing alongside them. Students pick one of three paths: solid mechanics and design, robotics and mechatronics, or thermal and fluid sciences. From year one they work with computer tools, including AutoCAD, Solidworks and Matlab. Many students join faculty research projects. Electives let them range across the field or concentrate on a single area. The program is accredited by ABET's engineering commission, which confirms it meets professional quality standards.
