BA/BS in Chemistry

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is the degree recommended for students planning a career as a chemist. Its curriculum is designed to satisfy the standards for American Chemical Society accreditation. In addition to the shared first-year seminar and writing courses, students take extensive science coursework within the major, which also satisfies the natural science expectation of general education. Social science, arts and humanities, and elective requirements complete the plan. The structure suits students who intend to work in laboratories or continue into graduate study. The program is delivered through Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, and its requirements appear in the university's 2026-2027 academic catalog. Prospective students should read the catalog entry and consult the department about advising and course sequencing, since specific course lists, prerequisites and policies are set by the department and may change between catalog editions.
