Overview
This English program develops analytical writing and critical-thinking skills through the study of literature ranging from classic novels and plays to poetry, essays, and contemporary voices from around the world. It offers over 60 courses spanning different periods, genres, and critical approaches, and can be completed as a Bachelor of Arts with a major, a Bachelor of Arts with honours, or an English minor. A creative-writing thesis option is available to honours students, and the program is noted for being among a small number of Canadian universities where undergraduates can complete a creative thesis. Co-op work terms and study-abroad terms are both available. In the middle years, students may take on paid roles as student assistants or take part in summer research, alongside the option to enroll in co-op; the final year offers the option to complete an honours thesis and, potentially, present at a conference. Delivery is on campus at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Admission Requirements: The English programme page does not add admission requirements beyond Acadia's general undergraduate criteria, published on the university's admissions pages. For direct entry, Nova Scotia and most Canadian applicants need Grade 12 English plus four additional Grade 12 academic or advanced courses, with a minimum overall average of 70% calculated by the Admissions Office (the university's average entering grade is 86%); applicants from other provinces follow province-specific course lists at the same 70% minimum. All applications require a CAD $40 non-refundable processing fee and transcripts from every institution attended. Applicants whose first language is not English must present IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 with no subtest below 20 for exams before January 21, 2026, or TOEFL 4.5 overall with no score below 4.5 for exams on or after that date; PTE Academic 61, CAEL 70, Cambridge C1 Advanced 180, Duolingo 115, or three years of English-medium schooling also satisfy the requirement.

Application Deadline:Acadia does not publish year-specific application deadlines: its live admissions pages state only that domestic and international undergraduate applicants may apply any time after September 21st, with March 1st as the priority date for entrance-scholarship consideration (decisions by mid-April); no year is attached to either date. Admission is otherwise rolling, with no separate international closing date published. The Bachelor of Education programme has its own cycle, opening October 1st, but as of September 2026 the page still shows the stale 2025-2026 cycle and no current-cycle date has been published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
