Theatre at Acadia University is a four-year Bachelor of Arts program with two streams of study: performance and production. The performance stream provides training in acting, movement, voice, theatre history, and dramatic literature. The production stream is multidisciplinary, focusing on the technical and backstage elements of staging a show, including design and stage management. Students gain practical experience through the Acadia Theatre Company, which stages two mainstage productions each year drawn from a range of repertoire, plus an annual Minifest of original one-act plays written, directed, and produced entirely by students under faculty supervision. Class sizes are small, and faculty include working theatre professionals who mentor students directly. The program combines academic coursework with hands-on studio and production work across both streams. Graduates go on to work in acting, directing, arts administration, media and entertainment, communications, and public relations.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is based on senior secondary school achievement; several first-year Theatre courses carry secondary-school prerequisites, so applicants are advised to have senior-year secondary standing in related subjects. Applicants presenting an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma need an overall score of 24 or better, including IB English, and may receive 30 hours of university credit with a score of 30 or higher. Applicants who have completed IB coursework without the full diploma are considered individually, with credit granted for higher-level IB courses graded 5 to 7.
