Program details

Overview

Curriculum Studies with a Focus in Music Education is a part-time Master of Education offered jointly by Acadia University's School of Music and School of Education. The 30 credit-hour program is delivered as 10 courses over a two-year cohort, combining online coursework in the fall, winter, and spring terms with in-person classes at Acadia during the summer. Coursework builds sequentially from one course to the next and is grounded in culturally responsive pedagogies, addressing curriculum development for elementary and secondary music programs. Students may complete the program through a course-based route or opt for a thesis, and the program concludes with a capstone experience. The cohort model has been offered since 2012 and has graduated 143 elementary and secondary music teachers from across Canada and beyond, and is designed for practising music educators seeking to strengthen curriculum design and teaching practice while continuing to work.
