Overview
This three-year Bachelor of Arts in Community Development combines required coursework in Community, Economic and Social Development (CESD) and Social Work to give students practical and analytical skills for working with communities on social change. In the third year, students complete a 150-hour work placement with organizations such as the Rotary Club, the Timmins Anti-Hunger Coalition, and local First Nations. Some students have taken part in international learning experiences, including trips to Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador, and events such as Slow Food International's Terra Madre in Turin, Italy. The program is delivered on campus at Algoma University's Sault Ste. Marie, Brampton, and Timmins locations, with course delivery shaped through partnerships with local communities and organizations. The interdisciplinary structure combines theoretical study with applied field experience, preparing graduates for roles in community organizations, non-profits, and social service agencies.
