Overview
Civil Engineering Technology is a three-year, six-level Ontario College Advanced Diploma at Algonquin College, offered in co-op and non-co-op versions. The program covers project scheduling and cost control, surveying, design of steel structures and foundations, water and wastewater technology, soils analysis, and reinforced concrete design, with a background in physics and chemistry recommended for entry. Students complete a capstone project in collaboration with industry partners, gaining real-world experience and professional networking opportunities. OACETT recognizes the program as meeting the academic requirements for certification in the Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Applied Science Technologist (AScT) category. Optional co-op work terms let students earn between $7,000 and $10,000 per term, though students must secure their own placements. Graduates pursue careers in cost estimating, surveying, project management, building inspection, materials testing, quality control, and construction inspection across residential, commercial, and civil sectors.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature-student status for applicants 19 or older without a diploma. Program eligibility asks for Grade 12 English (ENG4C or equivalent) and Mathematics at Grade 12 (MAP4C) or Grade 11 (MCF3M) or equivalent, with a background in science, especially physics and chemistry, recommended. Students who have completed course requirements equivalent to the Construction Engineering Technician program with a minimum GPA of 2.0, including grade C or better in ENL2019T and ENG8404, may progress directly into the Technology program. International applicants must meet English-language proficiency through IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band under 5.5, TOEFL iBT overall 80 with no component under 20 for tests before 21 January 2026 or overall 4 with no component under 4 on the new scale after that date, or a Duolingo English Test score of 110 with a minimum of 110 in Literacy and no sub-score under 95.
