This one-year Medical Device Reprocessing Ontario College Certificate program equips you with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely and effectively reprocess medical devices in healthcare settings. You examine the critical processes of cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and maintaining medical instruments and equipment used in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare environments. You gain a comprehensive understanding of the standards, regulations, and best practices governing medical device reprocessing, including infection control protocols, risk management, and quality assurance procedures. Throughout the program, you engage in both classroom instruction and hands-on training to develop proficiency in using specialized equipment and understanding complex reprocessing workflows. You also benefit from two clinical placements, providing the opportunity for integrating theory and principles within a healthcare setting. Requirements
Admission Requirements: College Eligibility requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or Mature Student status (19 or older without a diploma, subject to a fee-based academic achievement test). Program Eligibility for this certificate is Grade 12 English (ENG4C or equivalent). International or non-Canadian transcripts are assessed through ICAS or WES, and the program's published English-proficiency scale is IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band below 5.5, OR TOEFL iBT overall 80 with a minimum of 20 per component for tests before 21 January 2026 (a rescaled overall 4 with a 4 component minimum applies to tests from that date), OR Duolingo English Test overall 110 with at least 110 in Literacy and no score below 95. International applicants who otherwise qualify must first complete Algonquin's four-month Introduction to Canadian Health Studies preparatory course, which itself requires an academic IELTS score, before entering this program.
