Program details

Overview

This Ontario College Certificate program, delivered through the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence, fulfills the in-school classroom requirement for registered Plumber (Trade 306A) apprentices. Structured across three levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) totalling 24 weeks, it uses up-to-date equipment and tools to prepare apprentices for a career as journeyperson plumbers. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or Mature Student status, and applicants must already be registered apprentices with Ontario's Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and members in good standing with Skilled Trades Ontario, which determines eligibility. Enrolment is arranged through Skilled Trades Ontario. As with other Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeships, this in-school component is one part of the overall apprenticeship, which also requires on-the-job training hours before a Certificate of Qualification is issued. Graduates are not eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or qualify as a Mature Student (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program). Applicants must also be registered apprentices with Ontario's Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and members in good standing with Skilled Trades Ontario (STO); eligibility is determined by the Ministry.
