Overview

This in-school apprenticeship program (Trade 308A) trains registered sheet metal worker apprentices at Algonquin College's ACCE campus, covering the trade skills and theory needed to design, assemble and install shop-fabricated parts for heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Training is delivered across three levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) as 8-week class and lab sessions (24 weeks total in-school), each followed by 8 to 12 months of on-the-job work with a sponsoring employer. Applicants must hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or qualify as a mature student, and must be registered apprentices with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and members in good standing with Skilled Trades Ontario. Completion of all three levels satisfies the in-school training requirement toward Red Seal certification as a sheet metal worker.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or Mature Student status (19 years of age or older). Applicants must also be registered apprentices with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and members in good standing with Skilled Trades Ontario (STO).
