Program details

Overview

This Bachelor of Arts Major, offered by Bishop's University's Department of Politics and International Studies within the Faculty of Social Sciences, examines the global community through cultural, economic, environmental, legal, social, and political perspectives. The program can be completed in three or four years, with intake in both the Fall and Winter terms. Coursework prepares students for further education or careers involving international interactions, drawing on multiple disciplinary perspectives rather than a single field, and situates global issues within their historical and institutional context. Graduates pursue careers such as diplomat, foreign service worker, human rights specialist, international development worker, immigration officer, policy analyst, and non-profit or government relations roles, as well as further graduate study in international affairs, law, or public policy.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Bishop's University's International Studies page publishes no admission requirements of its own and directs applicants to the university's general admission requirements. Quebec CEGEP applicants need an estimated minimum R-Score of 24, the standard threshold for undergraduate programs outside the School of Education; DEC holders may apply regardless of their program of study. Canadian high-school applicants need five Grade 12 university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 English, with an estimated minimum overall average of 80%. International high-school applicants are assessed individually against an equivalent secondary credential. English proficiency is required of every applicant unless met by a Quebec DEC, three years of secondary schooling or 30 post-secondary credits taught in English or French, or a qualifying test score: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0); TOEFL iBT 90/20 for tests before January 21, 2026, or 4.5/4.0 on the redesigned scale from that date; Cambridge B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176; PTE Academic 65/60; Duolingo English Test 115/90; or LanguageCert Academic 70-74/65.
