Program details
Overview
Political Studies at Bishop's University is a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) offered as a Major, Minor, or Honours by the Department of Politics and International Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The program examines the Canadian political system alongside political systems around the world, covering how governments cooperate and conflict, and the norms and structures shaping government, private industry, and individual political behaviour. Students develop the ability to critically evaluate society and institutions through the lens of political theory. An International Political Economy major option is also available, focusing on how governments and policy shape global affairs and building skills in critical thinking and persuasive writing for careers in diplomacy, law, journalism, advocacy, and business. The program admits students each Fall and Winter term and is open to applicants from high school, CEGEP, another university, or outside Canada.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed by applicant category. CEGEP students who have completed or are completing a DEC may apply regardless of the DEC's field of study, with no specific prerequisite courses required; the estimated minimum admission average is a 24 global R-Score (25 R-Score for School of Education programs). Canadian high school applicants from outside Quebec must complete five Grade 12 level university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 level English, three Approved courses, and one further Approved or Option course; required and approved courses vary by province. International, IB, transfer, mature-student, and other applicant categories have their own published requirements. All applicants must submit a recent transcript, and CEGEP applicants must also provide their Quebec permanent code. Meeting the posted minimum does not guarantee admission, as applications are evaluated competitively when demand exceeds available spaces.
