Overview
The Health Care Aide Certificate provides the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to deliver person-centred care as part of a health care team. Coursework covers personal care, mobility assistance, nutrition, communication, medication delivery, and clinical skills, combining classroom theory with lab practice and work-integrated learning placements. The programme is completed over two terms, equivalent to one academic year, and leads to a Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Provincial Curriculum 2019 Certificate. The main programme is delivered face-to-face, with theory and lab courses taught in person at the Calgary campus and placements completed off-site; a blended option delivers theory courses synchronously online while labs, exams, and assessments remain in person. Graduates are prepared to work as health care aides supporting clients across hospital, long-term care, and community care settings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need credit in English Language Arts 20-1 or 20-2 with a minimum of 60%, or credit in English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2 with a minimum of 55%, or a satisfactory result on the Bow Valley College Admission and Placement Test. Applicants must also demonstrate digital literacy through completion of an eligible English course, completion of ENGL 1201 or equivalent, a Digital Literacy test result of at least 70%, or completion of Northstar Digital Literacy.
