Recreation Therapy Aide is a certificate program that prepares graduates to support the work of recreation therapists in enhancing clients' quality of life through activities such as games, music, dance, and crafts. The program runs over five months, combining four months of online study, made up of self-directed coursework, scheduled weekly evening classes, and two longer Saturday sessions, with a five-week practicum totalling 150 hours. Admission requires prior education or work experience in health or human services, or completion of a personal support skills course, in addition to standard English and academic entry requirements. Graduates are prepared to assist recreation therapists in planning and delivering therapeutic recreation programming for clients in health and community care settings, applying the activity-facilitation and client-support skills developed through coursework and supervised practicum placement.
