Overview
The Administrative Professional Certificate prepares students for administrative support roles by developing the technical and interpersonal skills used in modern offices. The programme uses a competency-based education model, in which students progress by demonstrating skill mastery through performance-based assessments. Coursework covers office software applications, information and records management, event and project coordination, and workplace communication. The certificate is completed over three terms, equivalent to one academic year, with a standard course load of 15 credits per term. Classes are delivered in a hyflex format, allowing students to attend sessions in person or online at scheduled times; international students must attend in-person sessions to meet study-permit requirements. A minimum keyboarding speed is recommended for entry. Graduates are prepared for entry-level administrative and office support positions across a range of industries and workplace settings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need credit in English Language Arts 30-1, or a minimum of 65% in English Language Arts 30-2, together with credit in a Grade 10-level Math course (excluding Math 10-4 and Math 16), or equivalent. Applicants without these prerequisites may qualify with a General Educational Development (GED) test result of at least 520 in Language Arts and 450 in Math, or by achieving a satisfactory result on the Bow Valley College Admission and Placement Test. A minimum keyboarding speed of 25 words per minute is strongly recommended.
