Program details

Overview

This certificate prepares graduates to draw on the right skills and technologies for identifying and documenting a range of archaeological features in a way consistent with the province's Heritage Conservation Act. Collaborating with Indigenous communities plays a central role, and an applied field project gives students a chance to practise technical skills while learning cultural protocols and respectful archaeological practice. The main aim is to prepare people for archaeological field assistant work within the Cultural Resource Management field, or for other jobs involving resource inventory, and the certificate is meant as a complement to credentials like a Bachelor of Arts, not a stand-alone guarantee of employment.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to this Certificate requires one of a C in English 12 or a C in Camosun's English 12 Camosun Alternative, with proof of that grade or higher due at the time of application. The programme's own page publishes no further academic prerequisite beyond this English requirement, no separate IELTS, TOEFL, or other international English-test score, and no portfolio, interview, work-experience, or other supporting document. Applications for this programme were listed as currently closed at the time of writing, with an interest list offered for future intakes; applicants missing the English requirement are directed to Camosun's assessment or upgrading options.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC for Camosun's open-enrolment programmes: for Fall 2027 (September) applications open 1 October 2026 with an early deadline of 15 May 2027 for priority registration and a late deadline of 26 August 2027; Winter 2027 (January) runs 15 September 2026 to 7 January 2027, and Summer 2027 (May) 15 January 2027 to 29 April 2027. Limited-enrolment programmes publish only an opening date and can close once the waitlist exceeds the seats on offer. International applicants must submit a complete application by 1 June (Fall), 1 October (Winter) or 1 February (Summer), though later applications are still reviewed while seats remain, making admission effectively rolling for both groups once the early deadlines pass. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
