Program details

Overview

This certificate is a full-time, 28-week (seven-month) foundation program in welding delivered at Camosun's Interurban campus, taught five days a week, six hours a day, combining classroom theory with daily hands-on shop practice. The program is organized into ten sequential courses covering introduction and safety, oxy-fuel cutting, welding and brazing, shielded metal arc welding, carbon arc gouging, gas metal and flux core arc welding, material handling, blueprint reading, welding metallurgy, and supplementary math. There is no formal work-based placement or co-op described. Graduates receive credit for Level 1 and 2 technical training required by welding apprentices, plus 300 of the 3,000 total hours required for the trade, and are positioned to continue into a welding apprenticeship through Level 3 to earn Red Seal certification, or into the Modular A and B pathways. The program suits people starting out in welding who want structured, full-time foundation training before securing an employer sponsor.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The lowest academic entry bar among the trades foundation programmes covered here. One of English 10 at C, the Camosun English 10 alternative at C, or ENGL 050 at C. And one of Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10 at C+ or MATH 038 completed. Without either of those, Camosun will accept C or better in Foundations of Math and Pre-calculus 10, Principles of Math 10, Applications of Math 11, or MATH 053. Intakes do not follow the college terms: published cohorts run 17 February to 28 August 2026, 31 August 2026 to 19 March 2027, and 16 February to 27 August 2027, all at the Interurban campus, and seat availability is confirmed by phoning Registration. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS must clear Camosun's general college English standard on top of anything listed here — IELTS Academic 6.0 with no sub-score under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 78 with no sub-score under 19, PTE Academic 54 with no sub-score under 50, Cambridge C1 Advanced 174 with no sub-score under 169, or CAEL CE 60 with no component under 60, taken within the past two years — because the college states that its general standard applies even where a programme page shows a lower one.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC for Camosun's open-enrolment programmes: for Fall 2027 (September) applications open 1 October 2026 with an early deadline of 15 May 2027 for priority registration and a late deadline of 26 August 2027; Winter 2027 (January) runs 15 September 2026 to 7 January 2027, and Summer 2027 (May) 15 January 2027 to 29 April 2027. Limited-enrolment programmes publish only an opening date and can close once the waitlist exceeds the seats on offer. International applicants must submit a complete application by 1 June (Fall), 1 October (Winter) or 1 February (Summer), though later applications are still reviewed while seats remain, making admission effectively rolling for both groups once the early deadlines pass. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
