Cape Breton University's Bachelor of Arts Community Studies in Gaelic Language & Cultural Sustainability prepares students to become leaders and stewards of Gaelic language and culture, working in collaboration with governmental bodies, local organizations, and community partners. Students immerse themselves in Gaelic language and culture alongside coursework in research methods, language revitalization, language teaching and learning, and resilient communities. The concentration is comprised of 48 credits within the Bachelor of Arts Community Studies degree, and CBU also offers related 30-credit certificate options. Graduates build Gaelic language proficiency, cultural production and expression skills, research capabilities, and leadership in language revitalization, alongside an awareness of inclusiveness and reconciliation and the ability to advocate for language preservation. Career paths include teaching, government relations, work with grassroots cultural institutions, and roles as historians, archivists, or museum professionals, as well as social work, government administration, tourism and culture industry work, and journalism.
