Cape Breton University's Bachelor of Arts in Communication is offered as a concentration, major, or minor within the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts Community Studies, and the university describes it as the only communication major in the Maritimes. The curriculum covers interpersonal communication, public communication, media studies, and cultural studies, delivered through a mix of on-campus and distance courses. A dedicated communication lab has students working with peer facilitators on hands-on activities that build practical skills alongside course theory. Students develop critical thinking, conflict management, public speaking, interpersonal communication, media literacy, leadership, and team-building abilities over the course of the programme. Graduates pursue careers in public relations and corporate communication, social work, human resources, community leadership, teaching, and the multimedia industries, applying the programme's focus on clear and creative communication to workplaces and communities that depend on effective interpersonal and public messaging.
