— it helps other students.
This three-year technical diploma trains students to build web applications, mobile apps, embedded systems and networked solutions. Across six semesters, coursework moves from programming fundamentals, responsive web interfaces and networking basics toward object-oriented application development, database design and management, introductory embedded and IoT systems, cybersecurity, server and cloud administration, and capstone business-application projects, alongside general education in philosophy, French, English and physical education. Students can pursue paid work terms through an alternance travail-études option, alternating study sessions with employment, or continue working while studying through a parallel work arrangement. The program suits logical, curious and cooperative students interested in technology and problem-solving. Graduates find roles in IT support, web and software development, telecommunications, financial institutions and healthcare or government information-technology teams, and the college maintains transfer arrangements with several universities for students who continue directly into related bachelor's programs.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to Computer Science Techniques requires, beyond Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup's general admission conditions, one mathematics course: Secondary 5 Culture, société et technique (CST5), Secondary 4 Technico-sciences (TS4), Secondary 4 Sciences naturelles (SN4), or Mathématique 436. Students planning the DEC-BAC university-transfer pathway need a higher-level Secondary 5 mathematics course instead — TS5, SN5, or Mathématique 526. The general conditions require a Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) with the three mandatory Secondary 5 subjects, or equivalent training and experience for candidates who have interrupted full-time studies for at least 24 months, with conditional admission for candidates missing up to six DES units. The program has no enrollment quota (contingentement: aucun) and admits for the fall term only. No language-proficiency test scores are published.
