Program details
Overview
Techniques d'éducation spécialisée (DEC 351.A1) is a technical program at Cégep de Sorel-Tracy that trains specialized educators to work with people facing behavioural, social, physical or intellectual difficulties. Following a recent update to the program, training centres on learning through authentic, real-world situations and active-pedagogy strategies, and the program page highlights three work placements (stages) in actual intervention settings as a core part of the curriculum, alongside the acquisition of professional knowledge, communication skills and practical intervention techniques. It suits students drawn to hands-on, people-focused work who bring dynamism, leadership, teamwork skills and creative approaches to working with groups, and who want to develop the personal qualities the profession is described as requiring alongside technical competence. Graduates are prepared for specialized-education roles across settings such as schools, rehabilitation centres, youth centres and community organizations, working directly with the individuals they support. The program page also notes a pathway toward continued university studies for graduates who wish to pursue further education in a related field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic admission requires a Quebec DES or DEP with passes in Secondary V French, Secondary V English, and Secondary IV mathematics, per this programme's own stated conditions. Winter-session admission is limited to candidates who have already completed at least one session in this programme; other applicants are admitted for the Fall session. Cégep de Sorel-Tracy also offers Reconnaissance des acquis et des compétences (RAC), a prior-learning-and-experience assessment for candidates with relevant professional experience in the field who want the college diploma without full-time study. Applications for standard admission are submitted through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca) as a regular candidate, with a non-refundable $30 fee. International applicants are admitted for the Fall session only and, unless they studied in French, in Quebec, in France, or at an accredited French lycée, must submit a French-proficiency test result — Bright Language, TCF tout public, DELF tout public (minimum level B2), DALF, or TEF — plus an $85 CAD SRAM application-analysis fee, by the 14 March deadline.
Application Details
Start Date:September (January admission limited to continuing students)
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca): the college's page currently shows fall-intake rounds of 1 March, 22 April and 27 May 2026 (the cycle that has already started) and winter 2027 rounds of 1 November and 25 November 2026, with later applications assessed in successive rounds while seats remain; fall 2027 round dates were not yet published at the time of this check. International applicants apply through SRAM's international stream and must submit by 14 March for fall entry only, as the college does not offer winter intake to international students; SRAM does not publish a separate rolling window for these applicants beyond that fixed date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
