Overview
Program Overview The Educational Support program is the perfect course of study for people interested in supporting children and adolescents with special needs in academic settings. This program will prepare you to work in concert with education professionals in the classroom to maximize learning opportunities for exceptional students and their families. You will receive the knowledge and skills required to work in a multidisciplinary environment by working alongside teachers, EAs, speech-language pathologists, and physiotherapists. Program Highlights Highly experienced instructors who have several years of involvement in the field of special/inclusive education provide instruction and professional development. Placement opportunities in a variety of educational settings where you will further develop your workplace skills under the supervision of experienced professionals. Use the most up-to-date assistive and augmentative technologies to assist in supporting students' needs. Learning to construct and apply knowledge on a variety of topics related to special/inclusive education. Opportunity to obtain relevant certificates within the program (e.g., lifting, feeding, Behaviour Management Systems Training, etc.) Career Opportunities Graduates will find placement opportunities in elementary or secondary school settings, group homes, and family support agencies. Degree Completions Students who maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in the Educational Support program may be eligible for admission into one of St. Clair College's graduate certificate or accelerated programs (e.g., ECE - Accelerated). Additionally, students could receive up to 10 course credits toward a related degree at the University of Windsor (e.g., psychology, social work, disability studies, etc.). We also have pathways with Toronto Metropolitan University's Disability Studies program and the University of Victoria's Child and Youth Care degree program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with the majority of courses at the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level plus Grade 12 English (ENG4U, ENG4C, EAE4C or EAE4U), as stated on the programme's own admission-requirements page. Mature applicants are directed to the College's general Admission Procedures. Before clinical placement students must have completed all Year 1 courses, plus CPR-Level C, Standard First Aid (valid three years), a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (valid one year), and Electronic Requirements Verification; most placement sites expect COVID-19 vaccination, and international students completing placements need a valid co-op work permit. No separate language-proficiency scores are published, so international and non-native-English applicants are held to St. Clair College's institution-wide English requirement for diploma programmes: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 52, CAEL 60, CELPIP General 7.0 in each module, or Duolingo 110.
