Diploma in Furniture and Cabinetmaking Techniques

This three-year Diploma of College Studies (DEC, programme code 233.B0) in Furniture and Cabinetmaking Techniques is offered exclusively in Quebec, at the École nationale du meuble et de l'ébénisterie, part of Cégep de Victoriaville. Students learn to interpret plans and specifications to produce furniture and architectural millwork projects, design custom furniture and fittings using specialized drafting software and computer-numerical-control equipment, and build projects in an environment that reproduces industry conditions, combining traditional fabrication techniques with advanced technologies. The program also covers the evolution of furniture styles and interior architecture, and production planning and optimization. Graduates are prepared to work in residential, office, hotel, and restaurant furniture manufacturing, and in architectural millwork such as counters, display units, fixed commercial and institutional furniture, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, bookshelves, staircases, and wood ceilings, in roles spanning cost estimation, drafting and design, production equipment programming, production planning and supervision, manufacturing engineering, quality control, and project management. Graduates may continue to university studies in fields such as environmental design, product design, industrial design, and professional and technical teaching.
