Overview
This foundation certificate gives students entry-level preparation for a career as an electrical apprentice in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, following the Industry Training Authority's Level 1 curriculum with additional shop practice beyond the minimum requirement. Coursework is organized into competency lines covering circuit concepts, workplace safety and tool use, installation of raceways, cables, and enclosures, branch circuitry and protection devices, grounding and bonding, and communication systems, with circuit concepts alone accounting for a large share of the 720 total instructional hours. The programme is delivered full-time over 24 weeks at the Terrace campus only, with three intakes scheduled across the year. It is classroom- and shop-based, without a work placement or co-op component, and functions as pre-apprenticeship preparation rather than a registered apprenticeship. Admission requires Grade 12 completion or mature student status, together with English Studies 10 and Apprenticeship Workplace Math 10 or equivalent. Admission Requirements: Coast Mountain College's Electrical Foundation Training Certificate (Harmonized) requires Grade 12 graduation or mature-student status, four credits (two courses) of English Studies 10, English First Peoples 10, or equivalent, and competency in Foundations of Math 11, Workplace Math 11, Pre-Calculus 11 or higher, or an equivalent Math, ACCUPLACER, or CAT assessment score; Physics 11 is recommended but not required. Permission of the instructor may substitute for an unmet prerequisite where entry assessment supports it. No standardized English-language test score is set by the program itself. English proficiency is required of every applicant regardless of citizenship. International applicants who have not completed senior secondary education, including a pass in English 12, in a designated English-speaking country must present an approved test score, with minimums tiered by program: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 (bands 5.0-6.0), TOEFL iBT overall 72-80, PTE Academic overall 52-57, CAEL overall 50-60, or Duolingo English Test overall 105-115.
