Program details

Overview

Soins préhospitaliers d'urgence is a technical DEC program preparing students to become paramedics, offered by Collège Lionel-Groulx at two teaching sites: the main college and the Centre collégial de Mont-Laurier, with the site selected at the time of SRAM application. The program page describes candidates with an interest in health, first aid, rescue work and public safety, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, problem-solving ability, and tolerance for stress; graduates must be able to evacuate and move a 180-pound person as part of a two-person team. Before the ambulance-driving course, students must hold a class 5 probationary driver's licence and meet SAAQ health requirements, which leads to a class 4A licence; completion of the Programme national d'intégration clinique (PNIC) and registration on the national paramedic workforce registry are required to practise. Vaccination is strongly recommended, as an incomplete record could affect access to clinical placements, and placement sites require a criminal-record declaration. Training includes roughly 450 credited hours of clinical placement spread across five semesters, in ambulances and partner health settings, including an early first-session placement. There is no admission quota. The DEC gives access to any university program requiring only a DEC, including nursing sciences, and leads to paramedic careers with ambulance companies, the armed forces, and government or non-profit emergency services organizations.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: See the College's general admission conditions - this program sets no additional subject prerequisites on top of them. Not quota-limited ("aucun contingentement"). The program is offered at two sites, the Collège Lionel-Groulx campus and the Centre collégial de Mont-Laurier; you choose the site when applying through SRAM at admission.sram.qc.ca.

Application Details

Start Date: September
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM) at admission.sram.qc.ca: the college's own admission page states an equal-consideration date of 1 March for Fall entry and 1 November for Winter entry, which for the 2027 cycle fall on 1 March 2027 (Fall) and 1 November 2026 (Winter), with Winter 2027 applications opening 15 September 2026. Collège Lionel-Groulx does not publish a dedicated international-admissions page of its own; international applicants would follow SRAM's system-wide window, published as 15 March 2026 to 14 March 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, though the college has not confirmed this itself. Admission proceeds round by round on a rolling basis after each equal-consideration date until seats are filled. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
