Program details
Overview
Fire Safety Techniques is a professional/technical DEC at Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy training students in firefighting, fire prevention, crisis intervention and first-response skills, delivered over four sessions in person. Coursework includes fire-suppression technique, fire-prevention practice, hazardous-materials chemistry and fire science, alongside crisis intervention and first-responder training conducted in coordination with police and paramedic services. Practical instruction uses the college's own training facilities, including a fire station, water tanker, aerial ladder, burn house, smoke house, practice tower and confined-space maze. Admission requires a secondary school diploma and completion of a DEP in Fire Safety Intervention, along with a valid Class 4A driver's licence maintained throughout the program; intake is fall-only and the program is not open to international candidates. It suits candidates who are adaptable and analytical, work well in teams and maintain strong physical fitness for demanding rescue and firefighting scenarios.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the regular Techniques de securite incendie DEC at Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy requires a Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES) or its recognized equivalent, a Diplome d'etudes professionnelles (DEP) in Intervention en securite incendie, and a valid Class 4A driver's licence held throughout the programme. An accelerated stream exists for candidates who have already completed Quebec collegial general-education coursework and passed the province's uniform French exam (epreuve uniforme de francais), though the programme's page notes this accelerated stream is currently suspended. No minimum grade, average, secondary-level course prerequisite, or English/French language-proficiency test beyond the French exit exam is published for the regular stream; French is the language of instruction. The page does not describe a formal physical test, medical exam, or interview requirement. Admission is offered for the fall session only.
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply directly to Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy rather than through a regional admission service: for September 2027 entry, admission rounds close 1 March, 1 May, 1 June and 1 August 2027, after which late requests are still accepted case-by-case, subject to space, until the end of the first week of classes; a few contingented programmes such as Police Technology can close earlier once seats fill. International applicants are admitted for the Fall intake only, with applications due by 15 February 2027 for most countries and by 30 April 2027 for French nationals; no winter intake is offered internationally, and CNDF publishes no distinct domestic winter-round dates beyond noting winter admission exists. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
