Overview
Recreation Management leads to combined Bachelor of Science (Recreation) and Bachelor of Management degrees after five years of study, jointly offered by Dalhousie's Faculty of Health and Faculty of Management at campuses in Halifax and Truro/Bible Hill, with a September start. First-year coursework includes Introduction to Recreation Management Professions, Leadership and Group Dynamics, and management fundamentals, progressing to courses such as Leisure Theory, Inclusive Recreation Service Delivery, Financial Management and Fundraising, and Recreation Facility Design and Operations Management. The program holds accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions, described as the only such accreditation among Canadian recreation programs. Students complete a mandatory 16-week internship in their final year, and an Honours option is available with a thesis in a student-selected area. Admission to Dalhousie programmes is competitive, so meeting the minimum average does not guarantee a place. International applicants are assessed on the same subject list through Dalhousie's country-specific equivalency tables and must also meet the university's English-language requirement unless exempt, for example IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 overall with no section below 20. All other undergraduate programmes are considered on a rolling, space-available basis for both domestic and international applicants, with no separate international closing date published; May 15, 2026 is only the deposit and English-proficiency deadline, not an application deadline.
