The Doctor of Philosophy in Psychiatry Research at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine trains doctoral-level researchers in clinical and neuroscience research relating to mental health and mental illness. Coursework covers critical appraisal, study design, statistics, complex data analysis, and scientific writing, alongside advanced statistics and experiential psychiatry components, and candidates complete two comprehensive examinations before undertaking an original, supervised research project. The program culminates in a doctoral dissertation defended before a committee. It is delivered in person in Halifax, begins in September, and is offered full-time, with a standard length of five years or longer to completion. Graduates are prepared for research careers in academic psychiatry, clinical neuroscience, and mental health research settings. Admission requires applicants to meet Dalhousie's Faculty of Graduate Studies minimum entrance requirements together with the Department of Psychiatry's own program-specific admission criteria.
