Dalhousie University's Master of Applied Science in Materials Engineering is a thesis-based graduate program offered through the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Halifax. Students pursue independent, supervisor-guided research in material design, advanced manufacturing, coating technologies, and materials characterization, culminating in a thesis that is developed and defended before a committee. A co-op variant is also available, combining the thesis research with a professional engineering internship. The program is delivered on campus on a full-time or part-time basis and normally takes two years or longer to complete, with new students able to begin in September, January, or May. Graduates are prepared for research and technical roles in materials science, manufacturing, and advanced engineering industries.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies minimum requirement of a 3.0 (B average) grade point average in the last 60 credit hours of study, together with program-specific requirements set by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Dalhousie's graduate English-language proficiency requirements, such as an IELTS Academic score of 7.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of 4.5 on the 1-6 scale.
