Overview

The Asian Studies Associate Degree at Douglas College is a two-year, 60-credit credential exploring religion, history, politics, and culture in Asia, combined with language study to intermediate proficiency in either Chinese (Mandarin) or Japanese. The program relates to fields such as international trade, consular or diplomatic services, immigration, tourism, journalism, finance, marketing, and intercultural communication. Students who have completed 18 credits of a diploma, degree, or university transfer program may be eligible for Co-operative Education work terms, alternating semesters of classroom study with paid, full-time employment; participation requires planning two semesters in advance through the Co-op Office. A tuition-free, six-week online preparatory course, MATU 0500 Set for Stats, is available for students refreshing mathematics skills before the required statistics course. All Asian Studies courses and credits are transferable to the main research universities in British Columbia and to many universities across Canada, and can also be applied to other Douglas College programs. The program admits for Fall, Winter, and Summer terms under Open Enrolment and the college's General College Admission Requirements.
