Overview
Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Associate of Arts Degree in Asian Studies is a 60-credit undergraduate credential from the Faculty of Arts, combining the university's Associate of Arts Degree framework with a 24-credit Asian Studies concentration. Students choose at least 9 credits from a group covering topics such as South Asian popular film, East and South Asian geography, and the politics of Asia; at least 9 credits from a group covering Asian religion, history, and philosophy, including courses on Japanese, Chinese, and South Asian history; and at least 6 credits of study in an Asian language, selecting from Japanese, Mandarin, or Punjabi. Native speakers of an approved Asian language may apply to the Asian Studies Degree Coordinator for a waiver and substitute additional credits from the other two groups. All courses must carry a minimum grade of C and be transferable to Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Northern British Columbia, or the University of Victoria. Graduates receive the Associate of Arts Degree in Asian Studies and may continue into the Bachelor of Arts, Major in Asian Studies. Intakes run in September, January, and May.
