Overview
The Asian Studies Associate of Arts Degree at Langara College is a university-transfer credential focused on the cultures, history, and societies of the Asia-Pacific region. Launched in 1983, it was the first two-year program at a Canadian community college to concentrate specifically on this region. The degree combines Asian Studies coursework with general arts and science requirements accepted for transfer into second- and third-year study at universities such as SFU, UBC, and UVic. It takes a minimum of two years to complete on a full-time or part-time basis, with intakes in September, January, and May. Coursework covers the languages, history, politics, and cultures of East, South, and Southeast Asia, taught by Langara's Department of Asian Studies. Graduates typically continue into upper-level Asian Studies or related humanities and social science degrees, or apply the credential in fields connected to the Asia-Pacific region such as international business, education, or government service.
