Overview
The Health Information Management Degree teaches you practical knowledge in health information science, business leadership, project management, information technology and more. In your third year, choose from concentrations in Information Intelligence, Operational Leadership and Management or take the General stream. During your studies you’ll participate in two internships at regional health organizations as well as a 180-hour supervised practicum in the health, government or private sector.
You can also earn money and get relevant work experience before you graduate with the optional Co-operative Education Program. Once you graduate you’ll be eligible to write the national certification exam for the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).

Admission Requirements: ACADEMIC: the 30 university-transfer credits of the Certificate in Academic Foundations for Potential Health Information Management Applicants, each three-credit course passed at C+ (65 percent) or better — BIOL 1103 and BIOL 1203 (BIOL 1109 and BIOL 1209 are accepted equivalents); ENGL 1130; HSCI 1100; one of BUSN 2429, MATH 1160 or PSYC 2300; BUSN 1210; one three-credit university-transfer elective; and 9 credits of university-transfer arts or science electives. Applicants who complete that certificate are given priority. You may apply to the degree once those 30 credits are done. SELECTION is first-qualified, first-admitted; when more applicants qualify together than there are seats, the higher GPA on the required admission courses wins. AFTER AN OFFER OF ADMISSION TO SECOND YEAR: an interview with a programme representative may be required for further information or academic advising; a criminal record check dated within the year before the programme starts, because placements are in settings that require one to protect clients, at the applicant's cost; and a non-refundable deposit of CAD 350 credited against tuition. Start Date:Douglas runs three fifteen-week semesters a year: Fall from September to December, Winter from January to April and Summer from May to August.
