Admission Requirements: ENGLISH IS HANDLED UNDER A PROGRAMME-SPECIFIC STANDARD, NOT THE ORDINARY COLLEGE ONE: Douglas applies the general college admission requirements here but expressly excludes its usual English proficiency requirement and substitutes the HCA programme entry English language competency requirements, which apply to every applicant. If you can show three years of full-time instruction in English — secondary from grade 8 onward or post-secondary, at a recognised institution in one of the roughly fifty approved English-speaking countries and territories the programme lists (among them Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Singapore), and ESL courses do not count toward those three years — you then also show one of: English 11 at C or an approved equivalent; an equivalent college-level English course at C or better; or ACCUPLACER Next Generation with Reading 254, Writing 240 and WritePlacer 4. If you cannot show those three years, you need one of these tests from an authorised agency instead: CLBPT or CLBPT Remote taken within the last year at Listening 8, Speaking 8, Reading 7, Writing 7; CELPIP General or CELPIP Online within two years at Listening 8, Speaking 8, Reading 7, Writing 7; IELTS (Academic, General or Academic Online) within two years at 6 overall with nothing below 6 in any skill; CAEL or CAEL Online within two years at 60 overall with nothing under 50; or TOEFL iBT or its Home Edition within two years at 80 overall with at least 22 in speaking and listening and at least 20 in reading and writing. NON-ACADEMIC: you must turn 19 by 31 December of the year you start; a criminal record check through the Criminal Records Review Program including clearance to work with vulnerable adults, at your cost, with details supplied at the offer stage; and an interview with the programme coordinator may be required. BEFORE PRACTICE EDUCATION: a current immunisation record covering everything the health authorities or public health orders mandate for clinical sites, at your cost, plus FoodSafe Level 1 or equivalent, first aid certification, CPR Level C or Basic Life Support, the Student Practice Education Core Orientation, and the LearningHub modules. Douglas states on this programme page that international students are not eligible for this programme; international applicants should see Douglas's list of programmes available to international students instead.
