Overview
Amanda is a full-time faculty member in the Faculty of Social and Community Services. Amanda obtained her Honours Bachelor degree with a double major in Psychology and Sociology from Trent University. Following that, Amanda completed the Addictions and Mental Health Graduate Certificate offered here at Durham College. After working a number of years in the mental health field, Amanda applied and was successfully admitted to complete her Masters of Education (MEd) in Counselling and Psychotherapy through the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Amanda has worked at non-profit organizations in a role as a Case Manager as well as in Group Living Support. She has experience working as an Addictions Specialist for a Community Mental Health program affiliated with Northumberland Hills Hospital and she has worked in a Mental Health Worker role supporting College students prior to taking on a faculty teaching position with Durham College. Amanda’s research interests are in applied research and she has experience co-leading a major research grant entitled Raising Resilient Families: Empowering Parents with Cognitive Challenges. Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and six Grade 12 U or M courses with a combined minimum average of 65 per cent, including Grade 12 U English at a final minimum grade of 65 per cent; applicants without an OSSD may instead qualify under Mature Student Status if they meet the same English requirement, and post-secondary English courses are accepted as an alternative. English-language proficiency follows Durham College's institution-wide policy for degree programs: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall with no section below 4.5 (the scale in effect since 21 January 2026), PTE Academic 60 overall with no section below 57, CAEL 70 overall with no section below 70, or Duolingo English Test 120 or higher; a Grade 12 U English credit, post-secondary English course, GED, CAEC or a successful pre-admission assessment also satisfies it, and Durham offers pre-admission assessment testing to domestic applicants aged 19 or over who lack a required credit. Once admitted, students must complete Electronic Student Permit Checking verification, including immunisations and lab tests, before they are eligible for field placement.
