Overview

The honours degree addresses complex challenges within mental health programs, preparing graduates to support individuals and communities facing concurrent disorders, addictions and crisis situations. Coursework spans case management, crisis counselling, mental health promotion and advocacy consultancy, with relevance to addiction care, housing support and residential youth work, and an emphasis on equity, cultural humility and evidence-based practice throughout.

Admission Requirements: Direct entry from an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent requires six Grade 12 U or M courses with a combined minimum average of 65 per cent, including Grade 12 U English at a final minimum grade of 60 per cent. Mature Student Status is an alternative route, requiring Grade 12 U English at a final minimum grade of 60 per cent. International and non-native-English-speaking applicants must meet Durham College's general English Language Proficiency Policy at the degree level: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 22, PTE Academic 60 with no section below 57, CAEL 70 overall, or Duolingo English Test 120. Holders of a Social Service Worker diploma may qualify for advanced standing through a dedicated transfer pathway. Applicants aged 19 or over lacking the required credits can sit Durham's pre-admission assessment test.

International applicants apply directly to Durham, not through ontariocolleges.ca, and are assessed on a rolling basis against each program's published intake availability; Durham publishes no fixed international closing date.
