Overview
Criminology, community development and communication are just a few of the areas covered under Liberal Arts. This eight-month program helps students determine their area of interest while strengthening communication and thinking skills, sharpening academic skillsets, and increasing social science and liberal studies knowledge. Successful graduates may be eligible for advanced standing into Year Two of Ontario Tech University’s Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Criminology and Justice, Legal Studies, Liberal Studies, Community Development and Policy Studies, Psychology or Communication and Digital Media Studies. This program also helps students familiarize themselves with post-secondary life, workload, expectations and surroundings.

Admission Requirements: Durham College's minimum entry is an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or Mature Student Status. This General Arts and Science - Liberal Arts certificate itself adds only Grade 12 English at the C or U level; it states no minimum admission average for entry to the certificate. The program page states no English-language test score of its own for international applicants and points to Durham's institution-wide requirement for certificate, diploma and advanced diploma programs, set out on the college's international admissions page: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no section below 20, PTE Academic 53 overall with no section below 49, CAEL 60 overall with no section below 60, or Duolingo English Test 105; domestic applicants may instead evidence English with the required Grade 12 English credit. Advanced standing into the second year of Ontario Tech University's Bachelor of Arts (Honours) instead requires the requisite courses to be completed with a minimum average of B+ (77-79%) and no individual course below B- (70-72%); Durham states this does not guarantee admission, which Ontario Tech decides on its own competitive basis.
