Program details

Overview

Coursework takes a holistic approach across the disciplines that success in the beauty industry requires. Practical makeup-artistry courses cover basic and advanced application technique, including looks for different media and occasions, special-effects, period and creative work, plus lash and brow enhancement, practiced in lab settings that range from bridal makeup to theatrical productions. Core cosmetology courses in colour theory, skincare analysis and product knowledge round out the training, so graduates can recommend products with confidence and respond knowledgeably to what a client needs.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or Mature Student Status for applicants aged 19 or over without one, plus Grade 12 English at the C or U level. No further subject prerequisite, minimum GPA, portfolio or interview is stated on the program's own admission page. International and non-native-English-speaking applicants must meet Durham College's general English Language Proficiency Policy: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 22, PTE Academic 53 with no section below 49, CAEL 60 overall, or Duolingo English Test 110. Applicants missing the English prerequisite can pursue Durham's Academic Upgrading or a pre-admission English assessment before applying through ontariocolleges.ca.
