Overview
In today’s skills-specific job market, there is a demand for construction workers with the knowledge and skills to work in the evolving building construction industry. This program will provide foundational skills to transition into the current construction industry with a strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, latest edition. You will gain expertise in energy-efficient, sustainable and environmentally responsible homes built with up-to-date materials and a low carbon footprint, including Net Ready and Net Zero designs. The Carpentry – Building Construction Technician diploma equips students with both practical carpentry abilities and the theoretical understanding needed to excel in various construction environments.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or Mature Student Status for applicants aged 19 or over without one. Subject prerequisites are Grade 12 English at the C or U level and Grade 12 mathematics at the C, M or U level; Technical Mathematics and Grade 11 or 12 Physics (C, M or U) are recommended but not required. International and non-native-English-speaking applicants must meet Durham College's general English Language Proficiency Policy: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 22, PTE Academic 53 with no section below 49, CAEL 60 overall, or Duolingo English Test 110.
