Overview
This Graduate Diploma (DESS) in Mechanical Engineering is intended for holders of an undergraduate degree in a science-based discipline, or in applied science, seeking to complete additional graduate-level training in mechanical engineering. The 30-credit programme comprises up to 6 credits of 4000-level (senior undergraduate) courses, 24 to 30 credits of graduate-level coursework, and up to 3 credits allocated to a project or seminar. Course selection is drawn from the mechanical engineering department's graduate curriculum at Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and can be tailored to the student's area of interest within the discipline. On completion, graduates receive the Diplome d'etudes superieures specialisees (DESS) from Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. Applications to the programme are accepted for the fall, winter, or summer intake, subject to departmental evaluation.

Minimum GPA:2.50 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or another discipline relevant to the programme, or a university degree of a scientific nature together with training that Polytechnique Montreal considers relevant. Candidates must also have a minimum cumulative average of 2.5 out of 4.0 (or 2.7 out of 4.3, or the recognized equivalent); applicants who do not meet this average may request an exception by presenting a file demonstrating aptitude for graduate study, such as relevant professional experience or further study completed since their university degree. Admitted students must also have a designated director of studies (directeur d'etudes). Meeting these general requirements does not guarantee admission, since each application is also assessed against the specific conditions of the individual programme.
