Program details

Overview

This course examines how electricity and electronics principles apply to renewable-energy technologies, including the use of tools and test equipment found in the field and the safe working practices that go with them. Foundational content spans wind energy and solar photovoltaic power generation, with a thorough treatment of DC and AC circuit theory that contrasts conventional power generation with current wind-turbine and photovoltaic methods and their supporting systems. Students are also introduced to semiconductor devices and basic digital electronics, applying semiconductor theory to analog circuitry such as power supplies, transistor switching and amplifier circuits.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature-applicant status with credit in Grade 11 or 12 Mathematics (College, University/College or University stream, C, M or U); applicants short of this are directed to academic upgrading, with a conditional offer possible on proof of enrolment.
